First of all may thanks for taking the time out to speak to us, how have you been?
SN: Thanks. The last few months have been very exhausting, but I'm looking forward to what’s ahead. Besides my gigs in Ibiza, I'm going spend a lot of time trying to get some rest.
our Diynamic launch night at Sankeys in Ibiza is on the 10th July, are you all set for the grand opening?
SN: Because our roster has become bigger we did not set every single one of our artists for the opening. However, Stimming, David August, H.o.s.h. Uner, Adriatique and I are playing and we are all very excited about it.
What can the crowd expect at the opening night?
SN: I think that our presence on the island will bring a new variety to Ibiza. We are all very thankful for the opportunity Sankey offers us and are confident that we’re going to rock the club on the opening night.
You have the likes of Stimming, HOSH, Ost & Kjex, Uner and of course you on your Diynamic DJ roster, are there going to be any more exciting additions?
SN: It will be only our Diynamic artists playing. At the moment, we are 11 artists who all representing a different style of dance music, which I think will give enough diversity to our Neon Nights at Sankeys Ibiza.
You host a weekly radio show on Ibiza global radio, you DJ and produce and you have the roles of a promoter and club owner, how do you fit everything in?
SN: This construct only works due to the fact that I have an amazing team who helps me out. So I don't have to worry when I'm not in Hamburg.
How did you get into DJing / Producing?
SN: I started of with DJing only. At that time a friend of mine was already produced hip hop music. I remember me sitting for at least two years next to him while he we producing and trying to understand what he was doing. As the next logical step, it was my turn to start producing my own music.
Describe a day in the life of Solomun…
SN: Wake up, go to the studio which actually is in the same building as the club and our booking agency; drink the first coffee, check emails, drink the second coffee, meet with my label partner Adriano, take care of my stuff and go back to bed.
You recently mixed the Watergate 11 album, it must have been a privilege to mix one of their albums as it was the club which gave your Diynamic Music label it’s break a number of years ago?
SN: That’s true. It has been a long friendship between us and the Watergate crew and it is still one of my favourite places to play! To release “Kackvogel” and mix one of their albums was a huge honour.
As well as being a DJ, producer and record label manager, you also own the nightclub ‘Ego’ in Hamburg. What was the story in starting a nightclub?
SN: Before staring EGO, Adriano and I already did a lot of parties that were called DIY. We also organized them at the club, which is now our EGO. When hosting them back in those days the club was called Kukuun and we always had wonderful nights there, so when we had the chance to take over the whole club, we simply did it.
What has been your most memorable night as a DJ?
SN: I do really live in inflation, when it comes to memorable nights. I feel very privileged that I have had so many of them. It wouldn't be fair to say that a night was the most memorable, but the last unforgettable night must have been our Diynamic Off Sonar party at Barcelona.
All DJ’s have had a night where things didn’t go to plan, have you had a DJ nightmare?
SN: Luckily nothing really bad has ever happened to me while playing a gig. However, there are things that can agitate me. For example I hate it when somebody asks me to smile, looking at me with his fingers at the corners of their mouth. This is one thing that really unsettles me.
Now for some XpressDJs Quick fire questions:
Have you ever seen a ghost?
SN: I believe in god and I believe that his angels are around and take care of us.
If you could have one super hero power what would it be?
SN: If I really have this choice it would take much more time to find the right power. ‘Cause it would have to be something charitable that could help us all.
What’s your favourite all time hands in the air tune?
SN: There are too many good tunes to answer this!
Thank you for taking the time out to speak to us, do you have any famous last words?
SN :Stay true to yourself.
